Golden Text
“She watches over the affairs of her household and does not eat the bread of idleness.” (Proverbs 31:27, BSB) · Read in the Bible
Father God created mommy to love, care for, and protect every child. The story of Jochebed, who placed baby Moses in a little basket and trusted in God, shows a mother's courage and love — and the care of the Lord, who kept the baby safe.
There is someone who knows the baby even before he is born — who feels every movement, who waits with a heart full of love. Do you know who it is? Mommy! And the truth of this lesson fills the heart with gratitude: Father God Made Mommy. He prepared someone special to take care of every baby with affection, protection, and lots of love.
Today we are going to meet a very brave mommy from the Bible: Jochebed, the mother of baby Moses. She loved her little son so much that she did something only a mother full of faith would do — she entrusted the baby into the hands of Father God. And the Lord took care of everything! This story will show the little ones that Mommy is a gift from God, and God never abandons the baby.
The story: Father God Made Mommy
Once upon a time there was a mommy named Jochebed. She had a very beautiful little baby named Moses. Mommy Jochebed loved baby Moses with all her heart — she gave him affection, took care of him, and protected him.
But there was a problem: a very bad king wanted to harm the babies. What did Mommy Jochebed do? She prepared a very pretty little basket, with great care and love, placed baby Moses inside, and set the little basket at the edge of the river. And do you know why she did that? Because she trusted in Father God — she knew that God was going to take care of her baby.
And Father God did take care of him! He kept baby Moses safe, and everything turned out well. The baby was safe, protected, and warm. Father God never left the baby alone.
Mommy Jochebed is an example: she loved, took care, and trusted in God. And your mommy, dear baby, is also a beautiful gift that Father God prepared — someone who takes care of you every day.
❤ For the child's heart. Your mommy is a gift from Father God! She takes care of you, gives you affection, protects you, and loves you. And Father God is always near, taking care of you and your mommy. You are never alone!
Christ in the Lesson
Jochebed placed the baby in a little basket and trusted in God — and God kept Moses safe. Centuries later, another baby was born in difficult circumstances: Jesus, who came into the world in a humble manger, cared for by Mary. God always protects His little ones. And that baby from Bethlehem grew up to be the Savior — the One who takes us in His arms and says to let the children come to Him (Matthew 19:14). When we teach that "Father God Made Mommy," we show that God takes care of us through people — and the supreme care came through Jesus, who gave His life so that every child may be a beloved child of the Father.
Closing Prayer
Father God, thank You for making the mommy of every baby in this little room. Thank You for the courage of Jochebed, who trusted in You and saw the Lord take care of her baby. Bless every mommy — give her strength, health, and a heart overflowing with love. And may each child grow up knowing that Mommy is a gift from You and that You never, ever abandon them. In Jesus' name, amen.
Soli Deo Gloria — Scripture governs; everything else, on its knees.
Frequently asked questions about this lesson
What is the central truth of Nursery Lesson 4?+
That Father God made mommy. God gave Jochebed as a mother to Moses — a brave mother who trusted in the Lord and protected the baby by placing him in a little basket on the river. The lesson teaches babies that mommy is a gift from God, someone who cares for them with love. The verse is Proverbs 31:27.
How do you tell the story of Moses in the little basket to babies?+
Use a doll wrapped in a cloth and a small basket (or a box with straw). Show the picture of Jochebed, say that she is baby Moses' mommy and that she lovingly prepared a little basket. Place the doll in the basket, hide it, and then reveal it: 'Father God kept the baby safe, and everything was fine!' Let the children touch the doll.
What is the biblical basis for the story of Moses' mommy?+
Exodus 2:1-10. In this passage, Jochebed hides baby Moses for three months and then places him in a papyrus basket on the Nile River, trusting in God. Pharaoh's daughter finds the baby and raises him — but Jochebed is called to nurse him. The story shows God's care through a brave mother.
How can you involve mothers in the Nursery class about mommy?+
Invite the mothers to be present in this class. Set aside a moment for them to play with their children in the classroom. This strengthens the emotional bond and allows the child to connect the truth of the lesson — 'Father God gave mommy' — with the tangible presence of their own mother right there in that moment.
Teacher's Guide
The Nursery class is taught in moments. Here is the script for this class:
Welcome. Prepare the room with love: clean, airy, with soft lighting. Avoid strong-smelling chemical products and check that there are no dangerous objects within reach. Welcome each baby with joy and greet the parents with words of encouragement — many face difficulties to get to Sunday School. If possible, invite the mommies to take part in a special moment in this class.
Praise. Place the older children in a circle and lead them around the cribs to sing together: "I am Mommy's baby, she loves me and takes care of me" (Livro de Cânticos Berçário 3/4, CPAD [the Assemblies of God publishing house in Brazil], p. 5). Make gestures of affection while singing — rocking, caressing, hugging. The gestures help the babies understand the message of love.
Verse (Proverbs 31:27). With the babies: hold each one in your lap, look into their eyes, and recite the verse calmly, twice. Then say: "Father God loves the baby and takes care of him. Father God gave Mommy to take care of the baby." With 1- to 2-year-old children: place a children's Bible inside a little basket — upon seeing it, the children will already connect it to the theme of the story. Take the Bible out of the basket, open it, and read the verse. Come close to each child and repeat the verse, placing the name of the baby's mommy in place of the word "she."
Bible story (Exodus 2:1-10). Prepare a baby doll wrapped in a cloth and a little basket (or a box with straw). Show the first picture: "This is Jochebed, baby Moses' mommy. She is very brave! Look, she is preparing a beautiful little basket for the baby." Second picture: "Mommy placed baby Moses in the little basket. Mommy takes care of the baby, she gives affection to the baby." Show the little basket you brought, with the doll hidden inside. Third picture: "Do you know what happened? Father God kept the baby safe and everything turned out well!" Take the doll out of the basket and show it: "What a beautiful baby! Do you want to hold him?" Let the children touch and caress it. Say: "Father God loves the baby and gave Mommy to take care of him."
Playtime. If possible, invite the mommies for this moment. Settle the children in the infant seat or crib and set aside some time for the mothers to play with their children. If the mothers cannot be there, the teacher takes on this role with affection: hold the baby doll, rock it, and say, "Mommy takes care of the baby like this, with affection," letting each child imitate.
Prayer. In the prayer corner, ask them to repeat: "Father God, thank You so much for making my mommy. She is very special to me. In Jesus' name, amen!"
Snack. How about a fruit salad? Healthy options, always. Check dietary permissions and restrictions in advance. Pray with the children before eating, thanking Father God. The helpers assist with serving and cleaning up after the snack.
