Golden Text
“Children are indeed a heritage from the LORD, and the fruit of the womb is His reward.” (Psalm 127:3, BSB) · Read in the Bible
Father God gave children to Adam and Eve — Cain and Abel were gifts from God to that family. Every child in the nursery is also a precious gift that the Lord has placed in the hands of their daddy and mommy.
Every baby who arrives in the Nursery room is a gift wrapped by God Himself. This week's lesson reinforces this beautiful truth: children are a gift from Father God. The Lord placed each child into the hands of a family — and that family was very, very happy when that child arrived.
In this class we will tell how Father God gave two little children to Adam and Eve: Cain and Abel. And as we tell this story, we will look into the eyes of each baby and say with all affection: you too are a gift from Father God to your family. When a child hears this repeatedly and affectionately, something beautiful begins to grow in their little heart — the certainty that they are loved.
The story: Father God Made Children
Do you remember Adam and Eve? Father God placed them in a beautiful garden, and they formed the first family in the world. But that family was still going to grow!
Mommy Eve had a baby — a beautiful little baby named Cain. What joy! Adam and Eve were so happy! A little child as a gift, given by Father God. And then came another little gift: another baby, named Abel. Now there were two little children! Two gifts from Father God for that family.
Daddy Adam and Mommy Eve cared for the two babies with lots of love. They played with them, protected them, and showed them affection. Because every child is very special — a gift that Father God chose to place in that family.
And do you know what? You too are a gift from Father God! The Lord chose your family and placed you there, on purpose, with lots of love.
❤ For the child's heart. You are a gift! Father God chose your family and gave you as a gift to Daddy and Mommy. They were so happy when you arrived! You are very, very special to God.
Christ in the Lesson
Every child is a gift from God — but there is one Son who is the greatest gift of all: Jesus. Father God loved the world so much that He gave His own Son to save us (John 3:16). When we teach a baby that children are a gift from the Lord, we are opening the way so that, one day, that child will understand the supreme gift: Jesus, the Son of God, who came into the world because the Father loves us. Each little child reflects, in their own way, the generous love of the Creator who gives and gives Himself.
Closing Prayer
Father God, thank You because every baby in this room is a gift from You — chosen, loved, and lovingly placed into a family. Bless every child and every home. May these little ones grow up knowing that they are precious in Your eyes and that You care for each one of them. In Jesus' name, amen.
Soli Deo Gloria — Scripture governs; everything else, on its knees.
Frequently asked questions about this lesson
What is the central truth of Nursery Lesson 2?+
That children are a gift from Father God. The lesson uses the story of Cain and Abel (Genesis 4:1-2) to show that God gave two babies to Adam and Eve, and that every child in the nursery is also a precious gift to their family. The verse is Psalm 127:3.
How can I teach about Cain and Abel to babies aged 0 to 2?+
In a very simple and visual way. Use large pictures of Adam, Eve, and the two babies. Show each picture and repeat: 'Father God gave two little children as a gift to Mommy Eve and Daddy Adam.' Then make it personal: '(child's name), you are also a gift from Father God.' Using dolls and a mirror reinforces the message.
What game can I play in this Nursery lesson?+
The mirror game: cover a small mirror with a cloth and ask, 'Do you know who Father God's gift to daddy and mommy is?' Uncover the mirror so the child can see themselves and celebrate: 'You are a gift from Father God!' With younger babies, hand them rubber blocks and whisper the truth in their ear.
Why is it important for a baby to feel special in Sunday School (EBD)?+
Because a sense of belonging begins very early. When the teacher calls the child by name, smiles, and repeats that they are a gift from God, they are planting emotional and spiritual security in their little heart. This loving welcome is the first sermon a baby understands — and carries for a lifetime.
Teacher's Guide
The Nursery class is taught in moments. Here is the outline for this class:
Welcome. Welcome each baby with enthusiasm and a warm hug. Check that the room is clean, airy, and safe — rubberized flooring, nothing sharp within reach. If a baby cries when separating from their parents, do not worry: comfort them patiently, as this is normal and soon passes.
Praise. Hand out rattles and simple instruments. Sing a song with the children about being special — for example, "I am special, I am special, I am a gift to my family" (Livro de Cânticos Berçário 3/4, CPAD [the Assemblies of God publishing house in Brazil], p. 4). Use gestures and smile a lot.
Bible Verse (Psalm 127:3). Write the verse on a poster board and place the picture of Adam's family next to it. With the babies: hold each one in your arms, take them to the verse corner, and recite it affectionately, saying the child's name: "(name) is also a gift from Father God to Mommy and Daddy." With 1- to 2-year-olds: gather the little group, show the poster board, recite it three times, and use two dolls to represent Cain and Abel.
Bible Story (Genesis 4:1-2). Prepare a flip chart with the pictures glued onto poster board. In the story corner, show the picture of the two babies and say: "Look! These are the babies Cain and Abel, just as beautiful as you!" Then show the whole family: "Father God gave Cain and Abel as a gift to Mommy Eve and Daddy Adam. They were very happy! You too are a gift from Father God."
Game. Take a small mirror and cover it with a cloth. Approach each child individually and ask: "Do you know who Father God's gift to Daddy and Mommy is?" Uncover the mirror and say joyfully: "You, (child's name), are a gift from Father God!" Celebrate with clapping and affection. With the younger babies, hand them a rubber block and, while they play, whisper in their ear: "You are a gift from God."
Activity. With 1- to 2-year-olds: hand out copies of the activity sheet and jumbo crayons. The challenge is to color the path that leads Cain and Abel to Daddy Adam. Help each child calmly and patiently.
Prayer. In the prayer corner, ask them to repeat: "Father God, thank You so much that I am a gift to my family. In Jesus' name, amen!"
Snack. Offer healthy options, previously authorized by the parents. Before eating, thank Father God for the food. Check the baby's file for any allergies or restrictions.
